CHDC aims to promote holistic health and well-being for children, women, and communities through research, training, and community engagement. It focuses on empowering communities, building partnerships between universities and government, and strengthening research capacity.

CHDC staff teach and supervise Health Science students under the COBERS program, guiding them to assess community health needs, work with local officials, identify priority health problems, and develop practical, sustainable solutions through action-oriented research.

The Tororo Community Health (TORCH) Project was a 15-year collaboration between CHDC and Danish universities, funded by Danida. It aimed to reduce health inequities by building capacity among health workers and communities. It strengthened health information systems, fostered long-term partnerships, and laid the groundwork for future interdisciplinary research and community-based interventions.

The ChildMed Project sought to improve the quality of medicine use for children in Uganda through multi-disciplinary research and training. It examined medicine use for diseases like respiratory infections, epilepsy, HIV/AIDS, and schistosomiasis. The project resulted in academic degrees, policy briefs, and scientific publications, strengthening national research capacity.

CHDC has collaborated with numerous international and national agencies, including UNICEF, WHO/TDR, USAID, DANIDA, CARE International, AMREF-Uganda, and the World Bank. Government ministries that have benefited from CHDC’s expertise include the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development.
