Martin Omello Joy

Master of Science in Health Informatics

Omello Joy Martin is a graduate student pursuing a Master of Science in Health Informatics (MHI) at the School of Public Health, Makerere University, Kampala. With a strong background in Software engineering and data management, Omello is passionate about leveraging mHealth technology to advance innovative solutions for healthcare delivery, decision-making and promoting health.

His research interests lie at the intersection of machine learning, data analytics, and clinical decision support systems. Omello is keen on developing mhealth applications, predictive models, and intelligent systems that can enhance patient /participant outcomes, support evidence-based decision-making, improve efficiency in healthcare management, and improve the well-being of individuals.
Omello has engaged as a data manager in projects such as PMI Uganda Malaria RDT Capture, Reporting and Assessment (MaCRA) and Reducing HIV Risks Study (Gulu) in collaboration with the University of British Columbia, Feed the Future-USAID, and Parenting for Respectability in collaboration with Global Parenting Initiative (GPI), among others. This over 10 years’ experience has strengthened his skills in applying technology tools (Java, CentOS OS, ODK, mhealth) to support and solve real-world health challenges in Lower- and middle-income countries.
