Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS) cordially invites you to a dissemination workshop for a research study titled “Iron Status in Blood Donors in Uganda.”

The study, supported by the Government of Uganda through the Makerere University Research and Innovations Fund (MakRIF), was conducted by MakCHS researchers led by Dr. Aggrey Dhabangi, in collaboration with the Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS). Findings from the research indicate that approximately 20% of blood donors surveyed had low iron stores, raising important concerns regarding donor health.

UBTS has expressed a strong interest in the findings, particularly in exploring strategies to prevent or protect blood donors who are at risk of iron deficiency. The results of this study therefore, merit careful consideration to support safer and more sustainable blood donation practices in Uganda.

The Project Principal Investigator is Dr. Aggrey Dhabangi.

The workshop will be conducted in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend either physically or virtually.
